The Artist Behind the Realism

I didn't take the traditional path to opening a private studio in Chapeltown, but every step of my journey has shaped the artist I am today. My focus is strictly black and grey realism, a craft I treat with the same precision I once used to manage large-scale construction projects.

From Fine Art to the Building Site

My obsession with art started early. I studied Fine Art at Barnsley College in my late teens with one goal: to become a tattoo artist. I was offered an "apprenticeship" at a studio in Sheffield where I'd been getting tattooed since I was 15, but I quickly realized the environment was toxic and, like many others at the time, completely unpaid.

I spent the next 18 years in the construction industry. I enjoyed the work, eventually moving from the tools into project management. However, I soon found myself buried in admin, mediating between trades and customers behind a computer screen. I'd fallen out of love with it.

A Second Chance at 35

The lockdown in 2020 gave me the perspective I needed to explore a different path. At 35, the "bug" for tattooing returned. A close friend with a studio in West Yorkshire offered to show me the ropes and train me properly. I took to it like a duck to water; within the first week, I knew this was exactly what I was supposed to be doing.

My reputation grew rapidly during that first year, and today, the vast majority of my work comes from word-of-mouth recommendations. I don't spend my time dancing in TikTok videos or chasing social media trends—I'm a bit "long in the tooth" for that. Instead, I put that energy into studying the world's best realism artists to constantly refine my techniques.

Why I Work This Way

I pride myself on my attention to detail, my fair pricing, and my ability to get along with anyone who sits in my chair. I opened my private, appointment-only studio in Sheffield to escape the noise and interruptions of high-street shops.

  • 1-on-1 Focus: When you book a session, you are the only person in the studio.
  • Elite Standards: I specialise exclusively in black and grey realism because I believe in doing one thing exceptionally well.
  • Luxury Environment: My studio is a "Private Sanctuary" designed for mature clients who value a quiet, professional atmosphere with Netflix, music, and climate control.
